Through India has covered so many milestone of success after Independence but one of the best stories of success has been achieved through the Green Revolution in Agriculture. India was the chronic importer of food grains, but today the country has not only become the self sufficient, but also an exporter; and production and productivity have increased to manifold.

No doubt, Agriculture Research and Extension methodology in the era of sixteen an seventies has made India self sufficient, but due to rising population and decreasing land holdings, the innovation in technology dissemination need to be further intensified.

With the green revolution the community development programme was implemented in each and every block through which agricultural development works were started.

Further, in sixteen Agricultural Technology were spread specially in Bihar with the name of IADP (Intensive Agricultural Development Programme) and Intensive Agriculture Area Programme in selected districts where potentialities were available. The above scheme were actually the backbone for Agriculture Development and success of green revolution in the country and specially in Bihar.

A few years ago, Munger district was covering a large part of the state in which there were Cluster of lands like Diara, Tal, Hilly and Plain.

The situation demand  that  we have to produce more and more from a lesser piece of land. But if we think or visualize the overall development and production it is felt that Agriculture and allied departments do not have a regular linkage and they are functioning in isolation of each other.

The Agriculture development in the state or district suffers several physical instructional infrastructural and technology related constraints. The average size of holding are very small and it is further being divided into pieces. Flood and drought adversely affect the agriculture in the state and this district is one of the victims. The area between Patna and Munger remains inundated and with left over water of Ganges which is commonly known as Tal area where rabi crops specially pulses are grown.

Among organization constraints, non-availability of quality seed, poor support of credit facilities, erratic supply of electricity are present to name a few.

Inadequate marketing facilities is one of the reason due to which the cultivators do not get optimum prices for their produce. Moreover the middle men, specially village hawkers of grain. Purchaser also exploits the cultivators on price value.

The National Agriculture Technology Project (NATP) which is under government of India gives proper  emphasis on extension and research linkage. The need of extension methodology is the need of today with a view to facilities the farmers under diversified enterprises.

The existing research & extension systems in the district have a number of  constraints. Through the soil is fertile, but even it needs balance use of chemical fertilizer’s and adequate quantity of manure to make the soil heavier and increase the water holding capacity.

The time has changed and now the cultivators are realizing the need of diversification in farming system. Farmers are in need of technology and building through groups and federations.
